The team composed of the best players from the 14th Polish Championship has won bronze medals at the World Cup!
They advanced from the group stage with a perfect score and without conceding a single goal, defeating Uzbekistan, Czech Republic, Latvia, and Portugal.
After defeating Thailand in the 1/8 final, they faced one of the tournament favorites – France – in the quarter-finals, whom they defeated 2-0, thus advancing to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, they faced Belgium. The match was captivating and ended in a goalless draw, which meant that penalty kicks were needed to determine the finalist. The World Champions proved better in the penalty shootout.
Despite the loss in the semi-finals, they didn’t have much time to dwell on it, as shortly after, they competed for the 3rd place against Bosnia and Herzegovina. After a fantastic match in which both sides focused on the attack, and a total of 9 goals were scored, Poland won 6-3.
The Polish representatives also received 2 individual awards. Bartosz Przebinda was named the best player of the tournament, and Patryk Nowak won the “Biedronka’s Hope” award, thus earning a trip with the Polish national team to the 2024 European Championship qualifiers match against Albania in Iran.
