What fantastic matches! Forty teams battled it out on Saturday, April 23th on the football fields of OSiR Bemowo in Warsaw to become the Children from Care Homes Football Champion of Poland. The best team turned out to be Sternik Szczecin, who were the defending champions. They once again stood high on the podium and as an added prize they will travel to Paris in June to cheer on the Polish national team as they play against Germany in the Euro championship.
Showing great fortitude, Horyzont Kołaczkowo came in second, while third place went to Burza Kłobuck. However, those are not all the winners. Some players were awarded prizes for their outstanding performances on the field. The Best Male Player award went to Grzegorz Marciniak (Sternik, Szczecin), the Best Female Player award was won by Agnieszka Gostomska (Gdańsk), the Most Effective Goalkeeper award went to Patryk Zielonka (FC Miechów), and the Top Scorer award was given to Paweł Piotrowski (SOS Kraśnik). Also, the award for the Most Joyful Player of the tournament went to Bartek Jerzak (Zew Szczecin). The Youngest Player award went to 7 year old Krystian Boguradzki (Mała Mazowiecka Warsaw), whose team also received the Youngest Team award. The winner of the Fair Play award was selected from the votes of all the players and went to the team from Gdansk. The winners of the Contitest sponsor competition were, striker Pawel Piotrowski (SOS Kraśnik) and goalkeeper Michał Kruk (Orły Siedlce).
The young players were cheered on from the sidelines by stars of Polish football, who included Dariusz Dziekanowski, Maciej Szczesny, Radoslaw Majdan and Aleksandar Vuković. Together with the Polish Artists Football team, which was composed of Krzysztof Wieszczek, Rafal Mroczek, Grzegorz Jędrzejewski, Maksym Rzemiński and Peter Wiszniowski, they played a friendly match against the best players of the Championship.
During the tournament, the Polish representation for the IV Football World Cup of Children from Care Homes was chosen. These young players will play in the red and white colours of Poland on July 23-24 in Warsaw.
We would like to congratulate and thank all the winners and participants of the championship. It is your heart, passion for football and great joy that turned a Saturday in April into our shared football celebration. Thank you!
